Art Outing #2: The Wooten Ranch

Dear Artist,

Our second Art Outing in support of the Piñon Canyon Expansion Opposition Coalition
will be on Saturday,  June 28th and 29th at the Wooten Ranch. This location on the Purgatoire River includes some of the most beautiful and dramatic landscapes in Southeastern Colorado. This authentic working-ranch located in the red sandstone region and specializes in raising grass-fed beef with no antibiotics or hormones.

You should plan to arrive at the Wooten Ranch by 9:00 AM for an orientation. Our focus will be Pameña Gap which overlooks the Purgatoire River.

If you think you'll be participating in this outing please RSVP by June 16th. There are a number of artists who would like to join us but I want to give those of you who have already signed on to this project first priority. We'll be limiting the number so that we don't overwhelm our hosts. Please RSVP by emailing me at pinoncanyon@gmail.com or give me a call at 719-845-9959.

In order to catch the glorious evening and morning light, this outing is an overnighter. The Wootens have offered a bunk house where you can throw your sleeping bag on a bed; rustic, but out of the elements. Camping out under the stars is also okay. Steve and Joy have graciously offered to prepare meals for us on the evening of the 28th and breakfast on the 29th. Please bring your own food for all other meals. Wootens have a refrigerator that you may use to store your food.

Here's a map showing the routes from Trinidad and LaJunta to the Wooten Ranch:

(The Wooten Ranch will be marked in some way, with ribbons or a sign.)

What you'll need to bring:

Come prepared for sun and heat. Bring water, sunscreen and a cap.
Bring your own food and snacks.
Whatever you need to set up and be comfortable; folding chair, shade etc.
And of course bring your art supplies and your camera!

Keep in mind that this is a pretty rugged environment. There are cacti and wild animals including rattle snakes and mountain lions, so it's important to remain alert.

You can get general information about this project including our schedule at http://www.thislandisourland.org/pinoncanyonartproject.html.

I you'd like to caravan out to the ranch with me on Saturday morning, email me or give me a call and we can meet up in Trinidad.
